Human Design Types
Human Design types are the five energy types on a bodygraph: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, and Reflector. Each type has a strategy for decisions. Some schools teach four types and fold Manifesting Generator into Generator. A chart from birth date, time, and place names yours.
This page defines the types. What is Human Design explains the chart itself. It is not your chart. Get a free Human Design chart from your birth details to see your type, strategy, authority, and profile.
The five Human Design energy types
Teaching materials often cite Generators and Manifesting Generators together near 70 percent of people, Projectors near 20 percent, Manifestors near 9 percent, and Reflectors near 1 percent. Those shares are a convention in Human Design teaching, not a census Flowdara measured.
- Generator. Full guide Strategy: To respond. Satisfaction when the work fits. Frustration when it does not.
- Manifesting Generator. Strategy: To respond. Satisfaction when the response is real. Frustration when they initiate with no response.
- Manifestor. Full guide Strategy: To inform. Peace when they initiate cleanly. Anger when they are blocked.
- Projector. Full guide Strategy: Wait for the invitation. Success when they are recognized. Bitterness when they chase recognition.
- Reflector. Strategy: Wait a lunar cycle. Surprise when the environment is right. Disappointment when it is not.
Generator
A Generator has a defined sacral center, the motor for steady work. The strategy is to wait for something to respond to, then commit. A sacral yes is a pull toward the thing in front of you. A sacral no is a pull away. Starting from the mind, without that response, is what this type experiences as frustration.
Strategy: To respond. Theme: Satisfaction when the work fits. Frustration when it does not.
Manifesting Generator
A Manifesting Generator has a defined sacral center and a pathway that can move quickly to expression. The strategy is still to respond. After the response, many teachers add a second step: inform the people who will be affected before you change direction. This chart treats Manifesting Generator as its own type. Some schools fold it into Generator.
Strategy: To respond. Theme: Satisfaction when the response is real. Frustration when they initiate with no response.
Manifestor
A Manifestor has a motor connected to the throat and an undefined sacral center. The strategy is to inform the people who will be impacted before acting. Informing is a notice, not a request for permission. The initiating aura is closed. It moves, and other people feel the impact, which is why the notice matters.
Strategy: To inform. Theme: Peace when they initiate cleanly. Anger when they are blocked.
What is a Projector?
A Projector in Human Design is a type without a defined sacral center and without a motor connected to the throat. Projectors are here to guide, not to grind out energy all day. The strategy is to wait for the invitation, especially for work, a relationship, or a place to live. Recognition is what makes the guidance land. Pushing for a role that was not offered is the pattern teachers call bitterness.
Strategy: Wait for the invitation. Theme: Success when they are recognized. Bitterness when they chase recognition.
Reflector
A Reflector has all nine centers undefined. The chart samples the people and places around it. The strategy for a major decision is to wait a lunar cycle, about 28 days, and notice how the choice feels as the moon moves. Reflectors are the least common type in published teaching breakdowns, often cited near 1 percent.
Strategy: Wait a lunar cycle. Theme: Surprise when the environment is right. Disappointment when it is not.
How to find your Human Design type
Type comes from a bodygraph, not from a quiz about your personality. The chart needs your birth date, an exact birth time, and the city you were born in. Birth time changes the profile, the centers, and often the authority. Authority is separate from type: it is the body signal you use for a yes or a no, such as sacral, emotional, or splenic. Only Generators and Manifesting Generators can have sacral authority. Reflectors use the lunar cycle.
Open the free Human Design chart. If the birth time is unknown, the form can estimate noon, and the result is labeled approximate. A short definition of the system is also in the Human Design glossary.

Human Design types FAQ
What are the Human Design types?
The five Human Design types are Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, and Reflector. Generator and Manifesting Generator strategy is to respond. Manifestor strategy is to inform. Projector strategy is to wait for the invitation. Reflector strategy is to wait a lunar cycle. Some schools teach four types and fold Manifesting Generator into Generator.
What is a Projector in Human Design?
A Projector is a Human Design type without a defined sacral center and without a motor connected to the throat. The strategy is to wait for the invitation, especially for work, a relationship, or a home. Teachers pair this type with success when the person is recognized, and bitterness when they push for recognition that was not offered.
What are the five Human Design energy types?

Is a Manifesting Generator its own Human Design type?
Flowdara’s chart lists Manifesting Generator as its own type, with the strategy to respond. The extra step many teachers add is to inform people before you change direction. Other schools count Manifesting Generator as a Generator subtype and teach four types.
